So many writers have this problem of dealing with an artist who has the nerve to ask close to a living wage. To them I say: pay the page rate or piss off
I’m the one with who spent ten years building the skillset. I’m the one who spends her disposable income on supplies to keep me doing the thing you’re asking me to do. I’m the one working the pavement building my name. I’m the one doing far more work than it takes to write a script. And trust me, I would know because I’ve worked your job too.
So any commissioner looking for a freelance artist at a cheap rate: you are more than welcome to lowball an artist from overseas and wrestle with the language barrier that comes with that. However, the living wage here in the United States is what it is. Either pay the page rate or piss off. That’s all.
